Mayapple


Podophyllum peltatum, or mayapple, is part of the Barberry family and commonly found in damp, wooded areas. It has a unique structural makeup of only 2 leaves and 1 flower. The leaves are each large and umbrella-like. The stems and leaves of the plant are poisonous, but its berries are edible and enjoyed by box turtles. Wildflower
