American Beech


Fagus grandifolia, is a deciduous shade tree that has silver-gray bark and dark green leaves. It is native to Eastern North America. It bark remains smooth through its entire life, making the beech tree unique. The tree also produces edible beechnut fruits, as pictured, that are sweet and nutritious to both animals and humans. Beech tree root systems are complex and connect multiple trees together underground creating a grove. Wikipedia
